Directing the spread, part 3

I led a daily brainstorming/planning meeting that sparked lots of creative ideas, and this was one of them. For our home section at Halloween, I thought, why not create a hip haunted house? We then decided to add another layer to it, and have the pictures inspire the beginning of a scary story that we would write, and ask readers to complete. We had a huge response to the contest and lots of fun coming up with the characters and styling this cool Victorian Denver home.

Rather than run a straight review of the new Indiana Jones movie, I wanted to up the ante and run a list of our favorite action stars. I worked with the designer to come up with this trading card concept.

I saw "story on where seeds come from" on the budget and thought, kinda interesting, but not very visual. So, I started brainstorming and thought of how pretty and unique some seeds appear and asked the designer to design this seedscape. She maticulously glued each seed to paper using tweezers and it turned into this gorgeous, award-winning design.
